Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 28

Made it... All 28 days!!

Today was a continuation of yesterday. I can't believe how much ice was left 8 or 10 hours later. OS I left it till I got home from work. The other two images are the scarves. Not totally wonderful, but wonderful enough that I am going to try this technique again....

It's been another fun Thing-a-Day. I said this last year... and hopefully it will actually be true this year... I am going to try and keep up my blog. If you are interested it is isolde@posterous.com.

See you again next year!

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 27

Ice_dyeing

This is not some fruity dessert or barbequed shrimp as my husband first thought. At the bottom of this pile are a couple of silk scarves. On top of the scarves is a pile of ice cubes sprinkled with fabric dye.

I got the idea from http://www.bloombakecreate.com/

Tomorrow's project will be the finished product. Fingers crossed!

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 26

Swatch

This is not what I had originally planned to do for today but the day got away from me. I will have to do that tomorrow instead..... This is my gauge swatch for a new baby afghan (and thankfully it's right on). The one I had started just wasn't working out. Kept getting lost in the pattern.

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 25

Flowers

I help coordinate the program for a Girl Scout encampment. 300-400 girls and their leaders for a weekend. We offer 4 sessions of classes.... crafts as well as outdoor skills, etc. Several of the "things" I have done lately have been samples for a leader meeting next week.

One of the things we are offering this year is a torn fabric flower pin or barrette. The girls will learn to thread a needle, do a basic running stitch and the gathering the fabric up to create the flower. Then they will learn how to sew a button in the center. Very basic skills that an amazing number of girls don't know how to do!

These are a few samples of what they will be making....

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 24

At Christmas time my niece Meredith made these wonderful beaded beads for me. I'd been struggling with what to do with them. I found the chain at Michael's. Not sure if this is the end of this or not...... Instead, maybe I'll end up putting these on my circles I made during the first week of TAD.

Birch

I started this picture back in November and then time got away from me. It is the third in a tryptich. Background is acrylic. The birches are text from magazine articles and the leaves are squares punched from the same magazines. The canvas is 12 x 12.

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 22

Late yesterday afternoon I tried taking a picture of the snow through my kitchen window. It came out a little on the blue side, so I played with it a little... playing with some filters etc.

Thing-a-Day 2011 - Day 21

Snow day today. Not an official snow day, but I couldn't get out of my driveway. Close to 19 inches in our neck of the Minneapolis area. So I had the whole day to play. Don't you hate it when you have all the time in the world  (well at least a whole day) and you can't get the creative juices going? I finally went down to my corner of the basement - my studio - and straightened up a bit. I am one of those artists that can not work in a messy environment. It's ok while I am working, but not when I am trying to start or restart something.

Anyway... I started this piece back before Christmas. It's a 20" x 20" canvas covered in brown kraft paper. Now I am applying some of my hand-dyed dryer sheets. I had it vertical originally, but tonight I turned it so it's horizontal... I'm seeing mountains.... maybe.... we'll see...
